Why Natural Materials Matter

Natural coffee wood and coconut coir materials

A more thoughtful approach to play, enrichment and the world we share.

Our pets experience the world differently from us. They explore through their senses — they sniff, bite, chew, pull, bat, chase and investigate. The materials they interact with become part of that experience.

For us, choosing natural materials is about more than appearance. It is about being thoughtful about what our products are made from, where those materials come from, and what happens to them throughout their life.

Nature has its own character

Natural materials are never completely uniform — and that is part of what makes them special.

Coffee wood has its own grain, density and texture. Coconut coir fibre has a naturally coarse, tactile quality. No two pieces are exactly alike, because they retain some of the character of the material they came from.

For dogs and cats, these natural variations can also create a more interesting sensory experience — textures to explore, surfaces to investigate and movement that feels different from one interaction to the next.

Choosing materials with purpose

We believe good design starts with a good material.

Rather than beginning with a product and asking what it should be made from, we consider the material itself — its qualities, its character and how it can be used thoughtfully.

Coffee wood, for example, can be sourced from retired coffee trees that have reached the end of their productive life. Coconut coir fibre is an agricultural material that can be given another purpose.

By making considered use of these materials, we can create products that have a story that begins long before they reach your home.

A second life for natural materials

Sustainability isn't only about what we don't use. It is also about making better use of what already exists.

Giving agricultural materials a purposeful second life allows their natural qualities to continue serving a useful purpose.

For us, this is part of a broader philosophy:

Choose thoughtfully. Use purposefully. Waste less where we can.

It is a small part of a much bigger responsibility — to consider the impact of the things we create and the resources we use.

Natural doesn't mean perfect

One of the things we love most about natural materials is that they aren't manufactured to look identical.

A variation in grain.
A change in texture.
A slightly different shape.
The natural character of the fibre.

These aren't imperfections to us. They are reminders that the material has a history.

And when you choose natural products, some variation is part of the experience.

Made for the way they play

Our dogs and cats don't need products that simply look beautiful sitting in the home. They need things that invite them to engage, explore and follow their natural instincts.

That is why material choice and design go hand in hand.

We look for materials with qualities that can contribute to meaningful interaction — whether that means the satisfying texture of coconut coir fibre, the density and grain of coffee wood, or the movement and tactile qualities that encourage play.

The result is enrichment that feels considered from the material upwards.

A more thoughtful choice

Choosing natural materials won't solve every environmental challenge, and we don't believe sustainability should be reduced to a single claim or material.

It is about making better choices wherever we can.

Choosing materials with purpose.
Giving agricultural materials another life.
Designing products thoughtfully.
Creating things with care.
And continually asking how we can do better.

Because our pets deserve thoughtful products — and the planet they share with us deserves thoughtful choices too.

NATURAL MATERIALS.

THOUGHTFUL DESIGN.

MEANINGFUL ENRICHMENT.
